Camden East Cheese Factory 1876
The Meacham Atlas of 1878 shows a cheese factory at the corner south of the Anglican Church. This Atlas records J. C. Switzer is as the cheese manufacturer with post office box as Camden. Land deed records show on Jan. 28 1876 Joseph Lewes sold to James C. Switzer. Mr. Edward I. Madden is listed as the owner of the Camden East proprietor in 1901.
Napanee Beaver April 25 1902: Camden East – “The cheese factory opens on Monday next, with Mr. McGuiness, Selby as cheesemaker and Herbert Hoisted, village as assistant.”
The Camden East Cheese Factory, Camden East, was still operating in 1914; 1918 were producing whey butter.
